He claimed it was more of a circular cage than a literal continent-dividing barrier. It plays surprisingly little into the story, aside from serving as the setting for his encounter with the Darkliche (he avoided it and its deadly minions until the cleansing rays of the morning sun caused it to burst into flames).

Albuam's tone here becomes rather luddite. Humans are outside of nature because they place themselves outside nature. They mine the rocks, chop down the trees, smelt the lead, call the gods and twist the dimensions. His host points out that a dragon would have no problem with a naked human foraging in the brush in his domain.
