I feel like I may have given an incorrect impression here.


At this time we're not discussing adding paths, or subguilds or sects or whatever to Paladins. While those are nifty in theory I've come around a bit on them over the last few years to recognize them as a very poor RoI for development.

I'm using Paladin archtypes as a thought experiment to help flesh out mechanical needs. What sorts of abilities to Paladins need access to in order to both fill their role in the game and "feel" right.

Perhaps a better way to think about this is two mechanical questions I've been asking myself for awhile:

1) Paladins are armor primary. They need to care about their armor skills.

2) Paladins should be able to wear one type of armor (As opposed to mix) without it being clearly the wrong decision.

Which raises:

3) What would it take for a Paladin to want to wear a full suit of leather? Brigand? Chain? What sort of mechanics could encourage and work with that?
