Happy Tuesday!

Today, we tackled settling a long-time grump -- the lazy guards not helping to defend the town during invasions! All of the justice system's guards around the game will now react to hostile creatures when they see them. MOST of their normal justice duties (arresting people) will have a lower priority in their decision making when hostiles are in their immediate location. You CAN still be arrested, but for the most part they try to prioritize threats over arresting.

Behind-the-scenes, guards have tied into the mechs that the Fang Cove NPCs have used since it released. They can engage with the invasion in several ways:

  • They'll engage and attack hostile creatures. They actually damage them!
  • They can stun, knock over, or otherwise incapacitate enemies to make it easier for others to deal with them.
  • If they see a corpse, they'll drag it to a designated triage location. Each justice "zone" has one, and we can certainly tweak these initial ones if necessary.
  • If they see a stunned player, they'll also see that the player is dragged to triage.
  • If they see a bleeding player, they'll do their best to tend the wounds (externals only).

It's bothered us for a long time too that the guards just continued their patrols while the bank was getting robbed by goblins for the thousandth time! Overall, we hope this helps the realms feel a little more alive and responsive.

Cheers to Paklin for the QC on the updated guard + justice mechs to make this happen!
