All of the following are considered rare materials and must be provided for alterations.
helei leather
‘Helei' is 'wife' in Ilithic. Helei leather is the name given to the result of any leather processed in one of the two main traditional ways of the Snow Clan of Elves (see also smoi leather). When the helei process is used, the resultant leather takes on a rigid, glassy appearance despite not losing any of the malleability expected in a leather. The name is a reference to the Snow Elf concept of ice being the symbolic wife of the Clan.
Both smoi and helei leathers are reputed to be particularly suited for wear in cold climates, insulating the wearer heavily even when only a thin layer of the leather is used in a garment's creation.
smoi leather
'smoi' is 'husband' in Ilithic. Smoi leather is the name given to the result of any leather processed in one of the two main traditional ways of the Snow Clan of Elves (see also helei leather). When the smoi process is used, the resultant leather takes on a frosty white sheen, regardless of the color it is dyed. The name is a reference to the Snow Elf concept of snow being the symbolic husband of the Clan.
Both smoi and helei leathers are reputed to be particularly suited for wear in cold climates, insulating the wearer heavily even when only a thin layer of the leather is used in a garment's creation.
kau leather
‘Kau’ is ‘ash’ in Toggish. Kau leather is the result of a special Toggish process said to involve a mixture of herb and aromatic wood ashes, along with sundry alchemical reagents. After undergoing the kau process, a piece of previously ordinary leather becomes darker and extremely matte in finish, with a grain that is flake-like in appearance.
Knarn fur / knarn pelt
‘Knarn’ is ‘rose’ in Haakish. Named after the Rose Clan of Dwarves who raise the giant, furred worms from which this fur is harvested, knarn fur is long, dense, and somewhat soft, though has a spiked appearance. It is naturally a medium blue-grey shade, but can be bleached or dyed into any color.
Diacan
Portmanteau of the Gerenshuge words 'dialvea' (ink) and 'ican' (fish). Found as dark liquid deposits inside of other ores, the metal diacan can only be made into its solid form with the addition of special resins and elemental magics during the forging process. When so forged, the metal is deepest black with a slight watery iridescence visible when the light hits it just right.
Uthamar
Roughly translates to "of the hammer" in Haakish. A rare metal first found by members of the Hammer Clan of Dwarves, uthamar is used mainly for decoration. Found only in extremely deep mines, this metal is naturally a gleaming starlight white color, but can take on nearly any hue when forged via careful manipulation of the temperature of the forge's fires and the type of fuel used for them. Regardless of its final color, uthamar can always be identified by its uniquely sparkling appearance. It is thought by the Dwarves to be a blessing left by Kertigen for diligent miners.
