Granted there is a certain level of cross-contamination between these groups.

Again, I in no way wish to diminish the perceived essence of the Tezirites: creepy people who often delve into forbidden magic and attempt to cultivate power for their own, selfish ends? Yup, that's pretty much on target.

The difference, and where people get it "wrong" are on two points.

1: Presumed intent. The Tezirites are not in it for Tezirah, for Evil, or anything else. They're looking out for Number One, or at best maybe the Crowthers or the Guild because these are useful for looking out for Number One.

2: Demeanor. The archetype of a Tezirite plays into the mental image of the old money family that has grown sick. This is by no means a straitjacket to characterization, but the Tezirites will as a guideline try to embody a proper, possibly even genteel appearance. They are not inclined to be cackling madmen who delight in discussing the eeeeeeeevilness of it all.
