Heavily edited to cut out as much scroll as possible but this is still a longish log.

[Fang Cove, Obsidian Dome] The austere building is crafted from geometrically exact blocks of red striated obsidian that form a perfectly cylindrical chamber broken only by an arched exit. The crystalline dome above reveals thousands of brilliant stars in the exceptionally clear sky. You also see an obstreperous Shadow Servant, a grumpy Shadow Servant and an obsidian pedestal. Also here: Sidetracker Ariya, Strike Force Leader Zirra, Nomad Soldier Heucuva, Besieger Raeyshactos, Casserah, Mithyl, Sciomancer Daerte, Observer Lijarna, Marcul, Astronomer Miskton, Hayako, Sidetracker Zynara, Villager Visicue, Szath, Crimthann, Guard Chancellor Cristalyn, Death Dealer Killashandrea, Accord Keeper Malzard, Gemrardi, Remedy Kaelie, Extrapolator Randoon, Valeseria who is sitting, Gnimm, Veraise, Pharstar, Nomad Sebrahn, Market Trader Mofasah, Arollyn, Rifkinn and Karui. Obvious exits: none.

Artificer Tozu came out of an arched exit.

Tozu smiles.

Tozu says, "I suppose I shouldn't be surprised as this crowd."

Council Member Lavieska came out of an arched exit.

Tozu chuckles.

You see Council Member Lavieska, a Human. Lavieska has green eyes. He has thinning silver hair, with weathered skin. He appears to be middle-aged. He is in good shape.

He is wearing a black top hat with a satin band, a polished silver dragon suspended from a black cord necklace, a polished leather morawen with a ring-hilted sword rapier secured to it, a shoulder-slung ebony leather haversack, a relaxed-neck maroon shirt fastened by small pearl buttons, a silver ring, a platinum ring engraved with the Estate Holder's crest, a pair of black trousers secured with a thin leather belt and some calf-length black leather boots.

Lavieska says, "Greetings all."

You see Artificer Tozu Ayochi, a Gnome. Tozu has an oval face, piercing grey eyes and a bulbous nose. He has thinning raven-black hair, with pale skin and a thin build. He is short for a Gnome. He appears to be an adult. He is in good shape.

He is wearing a black gold jadeite gwethdesuan, a black gold kyanite gwethdesuan, a satin crimson sash embroidered with the symbol of Tezirah, a tooled leather enchanter's satchel with antiqued silver buckles, a black robe shot with golden thread and some sturdy black boots.

Miskton asks Tozu, "Well, how often are we going to get a chance to see this?"

Lavieska says to Tozu, "Good to see you, Artificer."

Lavieska says, "This is truly a historical moment."

Tozu says to Lavieska, "Thank you for allowing us this chance."

Arollyn says, "What else could gather so many of us so switfly."

Lavieska exclaims, "Oh! The Council is honored that you've chosen the area for the new shard!"

Tozu says to Arollyn, "I can think of a number of things."

Lavieska nods to Tozu.

Tozu smirks.

Lavieska says, "This will finally get the area the recognition that it deserves."

Tozu says, "My thanks to anyone who helped construct this place, I didn't imagine it would look this nice."

Lavieska says, "It's a grand dome, to be sure."

A blue-spotted crimson moongate suddenly explodes into being, shuddering softly.

Taramaine calmly steps out of the moongate.

The moongate collapses in a plume of red and blue.

Lavieska says to Taramaine, "Greetings, Guildmaster. Good to see you again."

Malzard gazes thoughtfully at Taramaine.

Taramaine nods to Lavieska.

Lavieska nods politely to Taramaine.

You see Guildmaster Prime Taramaine Ennis-Braun, an Elf. Taramaine has silver eyes. His white hair is shoulder length and straight, and is worn loose. He has pale skin. He appears to be mature. He is in good shape.

He is holding an ebony chest lined with cottony twilight padding in his right hand. He is wearing a moonstone gwethdesuan, a dusky leather tome satchel, regal robes woven from rich purple and golden silks, a belt of finely woven platinum chain and a golden medallion engraved with the seal of the Moon Mage Guild.

Taramaine says to Lavieska, "Counci Member."

Lavieska smiles.

Taramaine spares a glance for Tozu.

Tozu gives Taramaine a slight nod.

Lavieska appears to be trying hard not to grin.

Taramaine clears his throat briefly.

Lavieska says, "I'm happy to finally see that the Council could at least agree on one thing."

Taramaine glances about the room, pointedly waiting for silence.

Taramaine says, "Welcome, one and all. Please offer your thanks to our hosts, the Council of Estate Holders. We are here to witness yet another achievement of this great Guild, the Naming of a shard of Grazhir."

Lavieska smiles.

Lavieska says, "And our great thanks to the Moon Mage Guild for sharing this monumental occasion with us."

Taramaine says, "I arranged the construction of this delightful building at the Council's behest, and have warded it with my own designs. Assisting me in the ritual today will be Tozu Ayochi, formally apprenticed to Mortom and a rising prodigy within our ranks."

Lavieska smiles at Tozu.

Taramaine gestures Tozu forward and rests a hand upon his shoulder. Taramaine leans over to whisper a brief question to Tozu who nods in response.

Taramaine says, "I understand that this is a rare and momentous occasion, and excitement is certainly called for, but still I must ask you to give us plenty of space to work - the ritual is complex, particularly for one who has not attempted it before."

Lavieska says, "Oh, yes."

Lavieska moves back against the wall.

Taramaine gives Tozu a slight nod.

Lavieska says, "I surely don't want to get in the way."

Lavieska chuckles.

Tozu says, "Well then, let us get started."

Tozu rummages around in his satchel before withdrawing a silvery vessel filled with white neitrice powder. With painstaking precision he draws an elaborate diagram on the chamber floor in the powder, politely pushing the crowd back when more space is needed.

Lavieska watches Tozu closely.

His task complete he carefully steps around the lines to approach the pedestal where Taramaine awaits. Taramaine holds out his ebony chest with one hand while opening it with another, revealing a silvery-white shard resting in cottony twilight padding. Tozu reverently picks up the shard in both hands and aligns it on its mount atop the pedestal.

Tozu chants softly for a minute, his attention entirely focused on the shard. Finally he whispers a single word, "Vellano." causing the neitrice to erupt in a flare of white light.

Lavieska squints.

Lavieska covers his eyes with his hand.

Lavieska says, "Goodness! That was bright."

Lavieska blinks.

Looking suddenly weakened, Tozu turns to address the crowd, "It is done. If you'll excuse me... I feel... Thank you all for coming." With that he staggers from the chambers, brushing aside several outstretched hands that attempt to steady him. Taramaine carefully watches the departure, but makes no move to intervene.

Artificer Tozu went into an arched exit.

Lavieska gazes at the silvery-white shard Vellano.

You also see a stone seat, a lethargic Shadow Servant, an obstreperous Shadow Servant, a grumpy Shadow Servant and an obsidian pedestal with the silvery-white shard Vellano on it. Also here: Observer Lijarna, Scion of Katamba Aysta, Wind Walker Zephyria, Siobhannic, Marcul, Summoning Lord Tuckor, Rri, Naturopath Etherian, Guildmaster Prime Taramaine, Emerald Knight Calde, Page Tilnari, Council Member Lavieska, Sciomancer Daerte, Desperado Powerhaus who is sitting, Sidetracker Ariya, Strike Force Leader Zirra, Nomad Soldier Heucuva, Besieger Raeyshactos, Casserah, Mithyl, Astronomer Miskton, Hayako, Sidetracker Zynara, Villager Visicue, Szath, Crimthann, Guard Chancellor Cristalyn, Death Dealer Killashandrea, Accord Keeper Malzard, Gemrardi, Remedy Kaelie, Extrapolator Randoon, Valeseria who is sitting, Gnimm, Veraise, Pharstar, Nomad Sebrahn, Market Trader Mofasah, Arollyn, Rifkinn who is sitting and Karui. Obvious exits: none.

On the obsidian pedestal you see the silvery shard Vellano.

Lavieska ponders.

Lavieska says, "I do hope he'll be alright."

Taramaine says, "Ah, you must forgive young Tozu's rudeness."

Lavieska glances towards the exit.

Taramaine says, "As I said, the ritual can be very demanding - particullarly for one who has not assisted before."

Taramaine stares intently at the shard Vellano.

Lavieska nods to Taramaine.

Malzard says, "It is done."

>focus vellano

Lavieska smiles.

Taramaine says to himself, "Vellano."

You focus your magical senses on the silvery-white shard Vellano. The shard generates an appreciable amount of Lunar mana. It seems to be part of the foundation that sustains the microcosm. You sense that the vast majority of the shard's energies are tied into streams of mana which connect it to some great source in the distance. Reaching past the shard, you sense that the streams of Grazhir's mana flicker dangerously low and are suffering from minor disruptions. A distinct and vibrant pattern of Stellar Magic is set within the shard, the result of a ritual naming. You do not recognize this shard and cannot safely use the pattern of its name. Roundtime: 20 sec.

Malzard matter-of-factly says to Taramaine, "Quite remarkable."

Taramaine gazes solemnly at the sky.

Taramaine continues to study the silvery-white shard Vellano.

Zynara quietly says, "A good and strong name."

Lavieska says, "Indeed."

Lavieska gazes at the silvery-white shard Vellano.

>study vella

You begin to probe at the shard Vellano with your magical senses. Roundtime: 15 sec.

>study vella

You recognize the magical pattern behind the shard Vellano, but will need to study it further to learn more. You can sense the naming ritual set within the shard. You should be able to learn enough about the shard's pattern to succesfully use it with further study. Roundtime: 15 sec.

>study vella

You commit the pattern of the shard Vellano to memory. Roundtime: 15 sec.

Taramaine says to Lavieska, "Once again, we offer our thanks for this chance."

Taramaine says, "I can tell many of you are distracted, understandably so."

Lavieska says to Taramaine, "And again, our thanks to the Guild for sharing this with us."

Lavieska gives Taramaine a firm and hearty handshake, holding his gaze for a moment.

Lavieska says, "This will certainly bring more attention to the area and certainly more merchants."

Malzard whispers something to Taramaine.

Malzard gazes thoughtfully at Taramaine.

Taramaine says, "I do not know how many merchants will want to travel as we do."

Taramaine smiles.

Gnimm says, "It's not without its dangers."

Arollyn says, "Understatement."

Lavieska says, "There are many things that include dangers..."

Lavieska says, "I don't believe that's stopped us before."

>exam vell

Nearly six inches long and extremely slender, the edges of the glossy shard are razor sharp.

It is mounted lengthwise with each end supported by a crystal pincer.

Taramaine asks, "Would anyone care to examine the conduit?"

Killashandrea says, "I think Mithyl already went."

Lavieska says, "I'd like to also extend my thanks from the Council to all the builders....your work is truly appreciated."

Zynara quietly says, "I do believe the fear of the wrongly navigated conduit has me a little trepiditious."

Zynara grins mischievously.

Malzard nods graciously at Taramaine, giving him a polite smile.

Taramaine says to Zynara, "If you do not trust your judgement to navigate you shouldn't wander other Planes."

Lavieska smiles at Zynara.

Taramaine glares at Malzard.

Taramaine says to Malzard, "Do not think you know more of Fate then you do."

Malzard says to Taramaine, "You have seen what we all see."

Zynara quietly says, "However, now you have thrust the challenge upon me."

Zynara raises her palms skyward, chanting. You recognize the familiar mnemonics of the Teleport spell.

Lavieska chuckles at Zynara.

Taramaine says to Malzard, "I have, but I wonder if you realize what you see."

Lavieska looks thoughtfully at Malzard.

Malzard says to Taramaine, "I recognized the Council Chambers clearly enough, yes. I wonder how many other Students could say the same."

Malzard shakes his head.

Taramaine's eyes narrow to slits.

Taramaine says to Malzard, "I will consider your concerns, and address them at a later time."

Taramaine says to Malzard, "Thank you."

Malzard nods graciously at Taramaine, giving him a polite smile.

Taramaine gives Malzard a slight nod.

Malzard matter-of-factly says to Taramaine, "Your steady hand has kept us together through the darkness, Grandmaster. Thank you."

Taramaine says, "I know that you were with us through some very dark times, and we have come out stronger than ever before."

Taramaine says, "Today is evidence of that."

Szath snorts, loudly.

Taramaine glances at Szath.

Lavieska smiles.

Malzard says, "A humbling thing to witness, this."

Malzard nods in agreement.

Lavieska says, "It is indeed."

Taramaine says, "Good, good."

Lavieska says, "I'd also like to extend my regrets that the Council has been tied up with more personal agendas...."

Taramaine says, "Once again, thank you all for coming and witnessing this marvel of our Guild."

Taramaine says to Lavieska, "Councils can be like that..."

Lavieska says, "Regrettably so, I'm afraid."

Taramaine puts his chest in his tome satchel.

Lavieska says to Taramaine, "Thank you again, Guildmaster. I'll leave you to your work."

Taramaine smiles at Lavieska.

Lavieska says, "Thank you all for sharing this with us."

Lavieska waves.

Taramaine says, "It is times like these that remind me why we work so hard to hold this Guild together."

Hayako says to Taramaine, "Glad to have witnessed this event, I hope in time I will understand what I saw."

Taramaine says to Hayako, "Try harder and you may some day."

Hayako nods to Taramaine.

Malzard asks Taramaine, "Will Tozu recover easily enough?"

Taramaine says, "I imagine so, he's hardy and Mortom taught him well."

Malzard gives a slight nod.

Szath asks Taramaine, "Will the shard be safe here? What measures have you taken to protect it?"

Taramaine says to Szath, "It will be perfectly safe, as I said, I designed the wards myself."

Daerte says, "I assume the Y'shai will appear."

Daerte says, "As they did in our tower."

Taramaine says, "There is no need to post a Y'shai here. They are not the answer to minor security concerns."

Rifkinn says, "No just the big ones."

Rifkinn squints.

Malzard asks, "What is the history of the name?"

Taramaine asks Malzard, "Y'shai?"

Malzard says, "Vellano."

Taramaine says, "You'd need ask Tozu, he Named it."

Malzard gives a slight nod.

Rifkinn asks Taramaine, "Has a naming ceremony ever gone wrong?"

Malzard says, "To name a thing is to know it."

Malzard nods at Taramaine, obviously agreeing with his views.

Taramaine says to Rifkinn, "No. Never."

Malzard asks Taramaine, "Have you named a shard before, Grandmaster?"

Taramaine says, "Several, yes, which is why I let Tozu assist me today."

Hayako asks Taramaine, "If I may ask, then, are the names given, or 'revealed'?"

Taramaine says to Hayako, "They are given."

Taramaine says, "Some claim that the shard knows it's Name already, and they've just discovered it but that's flowery rubbish."

Taramaine says, "When you select a Name you define it, not before."

Taramaine says, "That goes for all things."

Taramaine says, "Not just shards."

Randoon says, "Ah, that's good to know! I was wondering what the truth of the Naming was."

Malzard wryly says to Taramaine, "How Determinist of you, Grandmaster."

Lijarna says, "Is the appearance of the conduit tied to the name at all? Or simply a part of the intrinsic nature of the shard, I wonder..."

Taramaine says, "It is simple, until a thing is Named it cannot be known."

Taramaine says, "By giving something a Name you give it identity and defintion."

Malzard says, "There is power in a name."

Taramaine nods to Malzard.

Killashandrea asks, "I assume the conduit has always existed, but just no-one has ever been able to access it, since they can't focus on the name?"

Taramaine says, "Exactly. If you are trying to pry knowledge of a Name from something you've not Named, that's not defining it at all."

Taramaine ponders.

Taramaine says, "It would be like finding a wild beast and asking it what it's name was."

Lijarna asks, "What of Erekinzil?"

Taramaine exclaims, "And when it growls at you, you declare "Ah! It is Grrrrr. I have so Named it!"

Lijarna asks, "Did someone conciously change its name from Undarverja?"

Taramaine says, "In the technical sense, yes, it now has a Name and that Name would have some power, but you've not defined it."

Taramaine says, "It would be a very weak Name."

Hayako says, "Does a Name limit something, too, and not just make it knowable? By defining something we not only say what it is, but what it is not."

Taramaine says to Hayako, "You could say so."

Daerte says, "If I recall it was quite a sudden change of name."

Taramaine says to Lijarna, "That is a little more complicated topic than I care to get into."

Malzard hesitantly asks Taramaine, "What of our name?"

Malzard asks Taramaine, "Defiler?"

Taramaine glances at Malzard.

Taramaine says to Malzard, "That is not a true Name."

Malzard gives Taramaine a slight nod.

Taramaine says to Malzard, "With a little more understanding of Names you would understand why that is so."

Malzard says to Taramaine, "I am but a Novitiate, in all things."

Traim asks, "Servant of Fate?"

Malzard nods at Taramaine, obviously agreeing with his views.

Traim raises an eyebrow.

Taramaine says to Traim, "The translation of a true name."

Traim nods to Taramaine.

Killashandrea asks, "Perhaps is the the gods that give items names, and it is through our minds that they communicate such? Thus we did not name it?"

Taramaine says to Killashandrea, "You sound like a Cleric."

Daerte says to Killashandrea, "Perhaps fate whispered the name into the God's own ears and they did not name it? Many circles we could wander in such estimations."

Taramaine says, "The Immortals made us, they shaped us, they gave us the ability to study and discover and define."

Killashandrea says, "Well...my sister is, she has drilled the gods into me good. I am a Monk too, maybe not that kind of monk."

Traim quietly says, "Vellano."

Taramaine asks, "Why blame your culpability on them?"

Malzard glances at Traim.

Traim says to Taramaine, "It was particularly magnanimous of you to allow Tozu the Naming, even after his call for your resignation and all."

Taramaine says to Traim, "A simple misunderstanding."

Taramaine says to Traim, "He has come around."

Traim nods to Taramaine.

Traim says, "It was an alarming letter to be sure, that's good to hear, Grandmaster. Amazing work."

Traim says, "I admit I was surprised to learn this was your decision for the shard's location."

Taramaine says to Traim, "We must maintain healthy ties."

Taramaine says, "Now, if we're concluded our little lesson on Names."

Lijarna says to Taramaine, "Thank you for indulging us."

Malzard glances at Lijarna.

Malzard says, "Indeed."

Lijarna chuckles.

Malzard nods graciously at Taramaine, giving him a polite smile.

Randoon says, "It's been very enlightening."

Taramaine says, "Of course, I live to serve the Guild."

Hayako says to Taramaine, "My thanks, I do not think I am capable of absorbing more on the topic."

Taramaine says to Malzard, "Consider carefully the future."

Malzard says to Taramaine, "I will redouble my efforts to search for errors in my interpretations."

Malzard nods at Taramaine, obviously agreeing with his views.
