Happy Friday!

This week, with Evike's guidance, we've finally tackled a VERY OLD Bard project that Deryka started (and had mostly finished!) 20+ years ago. Musical instruments (of certain materials) can now gain some weatherproofing protections. The details are a little finicky, and there will be some trial-and-error testing needed for you guys to pin down some of it, but here's a rough view of how it works.

1. Sufficiently "deep" water overwhelms any weather protection, even fully maxed out. You will never be swimming underwater and have your instrument protected, for example. This weatherproofing is primarily to help with rain/snow buildup when outside and works to slow or eliminate that accumulation.
-- That last part is key -- just because you have some weatherproofing present doesn't mean your instrument will be fully protected from the elements! More on this in the next part.

2. There are two aspects at play to determine protection -- the quality of the wax/lacquer/whatever that you're adding and the thickness (amount) of it already present on the instrument.
-- Higher quality weatherproofing items can be applied to a higher thickness level which provides more and longer protection.
-- Quality ranges are tiered -- everything released today is in the 24/7 shop tier. Regardless of which item you buy, when fully applied (it won't let you APPLY more), the instruments will have the same "thickness" score. However, each of the items today has a slightly different quality score within that tier, so the higher quality / more expensive ones will provide (a little) more protection.
-- The thickness factor is also a sort of duration factor. Weather checks (on their own without a command input from you) happen roughly every minute. Each time these checks happen, if the weatherproofing did anything to offset any/all weather, the thickness amount will be depleted by 1. Again -- higher quality tier items can be applied to higher thickness levels, which means you'd have to reapply it less frequently to maintain your protections.

3. We DO intend to release craftable versions in the future. Right now, this is in a weird place. It doesn't really make sense as a remedy -- it's not an herb and it's not healing anyone/anything. But alchemy is absolutely where it makes most sense. Whether we end up hand waving or waiting for a future discipline is uncertain at the moment, but please know we absolutely intend for crafters to be able to make the best of these in the future.
-- That said, you will probably see higher quality (but not maxed) offerings at future fest shops or other events.

4. In the name of "fun" and not realism -- the type of weatherproofing (oil, beeswax, lacquer, etc) is ultimately cosmetic. The system does differentiate them for messaging, and you must use the same type already present on an instrument (or SCRAPE it off to start fresh), but which you choose is up to you.

5. Quality and skill influence the RTs when adding and removing weatherproofing. Bards get a skill bonus in this calc. Quality (only) affects how much you APPLY or SCRAPE each time.

That should be enough to get going! We're excited to finally see this old work finished up and released! Big cheers to Evike for the suggestion and guidance as well as Paklin for the code QC, Duscot for the shop assistance, and to Deryka for the original work, wherever she may be these days!
