Just wanted to clarify a few points -

Embellishment will definately be a major part of artistry with engraving, dying, painting, enameling and other visibly altering effects. Jewelry craft will also feature gem-setting and encrusting on items, and Enchanting may have some visual effects it can add. However, a few methods of adjusting armor will exist within Armorsmithing like it does with Blacksmithing and Weaponsmithing.

Weaponsmithing has tempering, honing and balancing. So you could have a tempered longsword with a balanced blade, or a honed longsword with a tempered blade depending on which appearance you've cycled through to on the item.

So far, I was planning on tempering, fitting and reinforcing for metal armors. So you'd have a tempered chain shirt reinforced with thick rivets, or a fitted chain shirt with tempered links, etc. Each item gets 4 sets of appearance modifiers and you can cycle through them with a cleaning cloth.

This means that even if you temper and fit a chain shirt now, you could still get it painted and engraved later, and those modifiers would be added to the appearance possibilities.

For armorsmithing itself I'm trying to find some analogue to swappable weapons - as those complete the hardest tier 9-12 range items, especially the 3x swappables. Swappable armor is a tough sell. You can't just adjust a steel breastplate and have it suddenly work and feel like chain.

Adding small pockets to metal armors is a possibility. They wouldn't be capable of holding much, but some folks might still make use of them.

Shield making is actually the first part of the system I'm tackling, and we'll likely be expanding the number and types of shields as well as giving you the same density/weight options with armor to make them more/less protective and hindering.

Please keep the ideas coming if you have them. Thanks!
