General Information

The light crossbow is, as its name implies, the smaller and quicker version of the heavy crossbow. It tends to fall somewhere between its heavy cousin and the composite bow in terms of power, and is only marginally slower to load than the composite bow, making it a popular choice.
Adding to the widespread use of this weapon is the fact that multiple bows may be loaded and worn on the shoulder, similar to the heavy crossbow. This allows a marksman to hold up to three quick shots in reserve, and is extremely useful in PVP.
Unlike it's heavy counterpart, this weapon does not require the use of both hands while aiming. Thie allows the user to use a shield or weapon in the off hand while aiming.
The weapon relies primarily on agility to reduce its load time, making it more popular among characters who focus on agility rather than strength.
Load time reductions
First 1-Second Reduction:
*Note: Numbers above are when the load time is reduced 100% of the time. The load time can first be infrequently reduced at 200 ranks and gradually becomes more frequent until 250 ranks when it is constant.
Second 1-Second Reduction:
Load Times
Load times are always stated as two numbers, such as 6/7, 7/8, 8/9, 9/10, or 10/11. The first number denotes the number of seconds of load time if the projectile is being held in the hand while loading. The second number denotes the amount of time in seconds to load if the projectile is coming from a container.
10/11: The slightly rusty crossbow mounted with a ironwood goat's foot cocking handle from the Museum of Imperial History has a 10/11 load time. It also compares as more suited to strength than the standard store-bought light crossbow with a 9/10 load time.
9/10: The standard store-bought light crossbow has a 9/10 load time.
8/9: The standard forester's crossbow has an 8/9 load time as do many other crossbows. The 8/9 is so common now that it is considered the new standard and almost nobody uses a 9/10 crossbow.
7/8: A small number of forester light crossbows (perhaps a few hundred) were sold soon after forester's crossbows were introduced into the Crossing Trader shop. A fair number still exist and sell for thousands of platinum each.
6/7: An extremely small number of forester's crossbows were sold with 6/7 round times when originally introduced into the Crossing Trader shop in 1997. All following stock was quickly adjusted upward. Currently only two 6/7 light crossbows are known to exist and they have both been altered. One was altered by Nishu, then sold to Kraelyst circa 2001, then sold in September 2007 from Kraelyst to Coupe for 4,200pK: an ironwood-reinforced forester's crossbow strung with darkened spidersilk and wrapped in ripped zombie skins. The other has a camoflouged Ranger type description, owned by Tarmerdes, who (as of sometime circa 2006) is on hiatus indefinitely.
5/6: Stonebows have a 5/6 loadtime, but use sling ammo which is commonly viewed as extremely inferior, leaving these weapons as little more than a novelty.

Guild-Specific Abilities
- Rangers and Thieves can SNIPE with any bow-type ranged weapon, allowing them to attack while remaining hidden. Requirements: 40th circle.
- Barbarians and Rangers with 30 in both Agility and Reflex receive the load-from-hand time when loading from a quiver.
