Bard Recall: The lute has a tear-shaped body with deeply curved sides and back and a short neck. The six courses of strings run across a central sound hole down the fretted fingerboard to the tuning pegs affixed to a head that is bent back in a near ninety-degree angle. Its soft sound makes it an excellent accompaniment for the voice.
