The elipon is formed of graduated wooden slabs arranged in a semi-circular pattern. The slabs rise gently in a curving spiral, circling the torso of the player. This instrument can be worn with a strap, or more often, placed upon a table or other solid surface before the musician, (or Eliponin'i) and struck with small wooden or metal mallets. This instrument was believed to be the product of a famous Elothean Musician from the House of Silk Strings.
