Honeycomb opals are translucent crystal stones that have been polished to reveal an unusual honeycomb pattern within its crystal surface. When hit by the light, the gem glistens and sparkles with all of the fiery intensity opals are known for.

While this rare opal typically has a clear translucent base, there have been occasional instances of black and dark blue honeycomb opals being discovered. The color of the stone should not be specified unless it is "black" or "dark blue", in which case the color should be explicitly used.
