It is unknown what causes a tree to be susceptible to the transformation but the change is seemingly random, making the eerie-looking greyscale lumber rare and expensive.

Introduced at Droughtman's Challenge 450.

With all visual characteristics of its original species obliterated, hexwood is always light grey with bold black grain.
