Description

The midges briefly separate into a dense, amorphous cloud. When they gather together again, you notice that the void midge looks healthier than before.

Formed from an amalgamation of thousands of smaller midges, the void midge hovers malevolently nearby. The creatures comprising its void-black body are arrayed so that the whole slightly resembles one gigantic individual, complete with six segmented legs, flickering wings, and razor-sharp claws. The group seems possessed of some rudimentary gestalt intelligence, as the creatures move with a coordinated grace and cold, analytical cunning.

Recall

  • You recall that void midges are a gestalt creature possessed of rudimentary intelligence, thousands of tiny individuals banding together to make one rather sizable and more impressive whole.
  • The origin of their name is lost, though scholars have speculated on various etymologies. Some posit that the name originated as a kind of curse -- "Void, midges!" while others hold that the presence of the midges tend to make one feel as if a visit to the void is imminent.
  • The midges are known to occasionally envelop those they attack, leaving dozens of individuals crawling in and on the unfortunate victim. The midges then attempt to drain the life essence of the victim, making him or her more vulnerable to damage. In addition to this, scholars hold that harming the gestalt individual is rendered all the more difficult because the creatures are constantly rearranging themselves, healthy individuals taking the place of those killed or harmed. Thus, damaging the group enough to 'kill' the gestalt creature is very difficult indeed.
  • They are not known to cast any recognized spells.
  • They are not known to carry loot in locked boxes.

  • A gestalt void midge abruptly splits into its constituent individuals, forming a keening cloud that streaks forward, attempting to envelop you!
  • You just manage to escape the enveloping cloud of midges, though the keening, polyphonic wail of the thousands of wings leaves you with the beginnings of a headache.

Attack Message 2:

  • A gestalt void midge abruptly splits into its constituent individuals, forming a keening cloud that streaks forward, attempting to envelop you!
  • Though you struggle to escape, the tiny midges are everywhere around you, clogging your airway, their tiny bodies fouling your eyes and ears, wriggling beneath your garments. You lose track of the world around you as you attempt to rid yourself of the infestation.
