[Sicle Grove, Atop Gateway]
From atop this arched portal, a dry field of ash and smoke, where verdant lands once lay, is all that is visible.  Except for signs in the dusty ground that someone has climbed down the gateway recently, a search for traces of life yields nothing.  Nearby, a pillar of thick, ash-filled smoke from a fumarole climbs into the air.  Waves of intense heat radiate from the active vent.

Hazy, yellow light filters through a round window placed near the ceiling, casting an eerie glow about the room.  Open-beamed and devoid of partitions, the attic has a feeling of spaciousness missing in the chapel below.  Except for a small bookcase and a few storage trunks the place is empty, and noises bounce around the room in faint, hollow echoes.
