Cypress is a wood from the conifer tree family, which includes juniper and redwood.

The bark of mature trees is commonly orange to red-brown and has a stringy texture, often flaking or peeling in vertical strips. Some species have scaly or hard and square-cracked bark instead.

Cypress tends to be a light, yellowish brown with nearly white sapwood. It can have scattered pockets of darker wood that are the result of fungi attacks.
