Allye says, "This is a song that I wrote for, and that will be accompanied by, my daughter."
Allye motions to Almarius.
Allye grins at Almarius.
Almarius hops up and down on one foot in excited glee, causing her bloomers to poof out.
Almarius exclaims, "We call it, "Are You My Mommies?"!"
Almarius smiles brightly and nod to Allye, who begins to strum a cheerful ditty on her mandolin, her feet tapping along.
(Almarius brings a small penguin egg ocarina to her lips and pipes a little melody that bounds over the flowing notes of the mandolin like a stone skipping across water.)
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"Once upon a fine spring day, When flowers bloom and children play, Sweet Alma tugs my arm to say, "Oh, we should have a picnic!""
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
""A grand idea!" I do reply, And run at once to fetch supplies, A basket packed with food and pie, And cartons full of fruit juice."
Almarius smiles as she bops a bit, the infectious tune wafting from her instrument as she pipes away merrily.
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"I take her hand and off we go, But suddenly her feet get slow, "It cannot be the same, you know," Without my other mommy.""
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"I laugh and nod, and turn around, And sit her on the grassy ground, "You know I hate to see you frown! Wait here, and I'll go get her.""
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"So off I go, and there she sits As long as Gnomish whim permits, Which in this case is barely bits, And so it is she wanders."
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"She ambles here, and rambles there, And soon enough becomes aware That everything turns to despair When oh, you lose your bearings!"
(Almarius swiftly chirps an intricate series of notes. Allye echoes the cascade as her fingers fly over the strings of her mandolin briefly before returning to her strumming.)
(Almarius stamps the heel of her foot against the floor to introduce a driving rhythm that pushes the song ever forward.)
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"She stumbles onto craggy cliffs, A pair of looming shadows shift, She squints and with a piteous sniff Asks, "Are you two my mommies?""
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"The dusty shapes step into light As jagged edges come to sight, Rock guardians cause quite a fright! She scrambles down to safety."
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"She tumbles into grassy knolls, A garden sprawls beneath her toes, Two figures huddle by a rose, She shouts, "Are you my mommies?""
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"They turn and then come into view, A scraggly scarecrow calls, "Yahoo!" Beside a kitten's gentle mews, And Alma grins, embarrassed."
(Almarius's chirruping melody loops to and fro, darting through the steady thrum of Allye's mandolin with gleeful ease.)
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"Into a courtyard now she prances, A wiggly couple wildly dances, She laughs with joy as she advances, "Yippee, I've found my mommies!""
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"Alas, once more she must recant, The wriggly arms were from a plant Its partner shakes a cane and rants, She rushes out in anguish."
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"In tears she runs fast as a breeze, But where she goes, she barely sees, Until she bumps into some knees, And starts to tumble backwards."
Allye sings in a soprano voice:
"She's caught in time by doting arms, Her mothers' smiles soothe her alarm, In our embrace she'll know no harm, Now that, at last, she's found us!"
(Almarius performs a final flourish of twittering notes on her penguin egg ocarina, and Allye ends the song with a decisive jangle of her mandolin. They look at each other and grin.)
Allye sinks into a deep curtsy.
Almarius carefully lifts the skirt of her organdy pinafore and dips into a deep curtsy.
