Tanning is relatively simple, but it is time consuming. There are several steps you need to do.

1)First you need to get some pelts, skins or hides.
(if you don't hunt you can buy them from certain shops or get them from others)

2)Second you'll have to scrape them until they are clean, you'll have several options for scraping: quick, normal, and careful
(you'll learn more if you do it quick but have better quality and less damage if you do it careful)
(you can buy a scraper from the general store in haven or the tannery in the crossings)

3)You'll have to buy some tanning lotion(for hides and skins) or pelt potion (for pelts), and you'll want to pour the (potion/lotion) on the (skin/hide/pelt). It'll say when you have enough.

4)Then comes the wait, can't remember off the top of my head how long it is(maybe 30 min. to an hour real life time), but it'll happen even if your out of game.
(waiting for the (pelts/hides/skins) to cure). You can look at them on occasion to see if they are ready.

5)Okay, now that they are ready you'll need a pattern, some tanning shears, a bodkin, and some stout thread. If your just starting out and don't have much mechlore/skinning i recommend an easier pattern, for example an eyepatch.

6)Put the pattern on the (pelt/skin/hide), if you accidental use the wrong pattern or change your mind you can RUB the (pelt/skin/hide) to get it off.

7)Get out your shears(found out flight shears work as well ;p), and cut my (skin/hide/pelt).

8)If all goes well you'll either have a set or some pieces, if you get a set goto the next step. If you get pieces you'll have to go through the other steps again using the same type of (skin/pelt/hide) and the same pattern. Then simply bundle pieces, and keep repeating the steps until you have a set.

9)Now that you have the set, get your bodkin out and POKE set.

10)now put the set away and pull out the bodkin and the thread, and PUT thread in bodkin.

11)put your thread away and pull out your set, and STRING Set. (might have to do it several times or even add more thread to the bodkin)

12)If all goes well you should have what you set out to make, if not try again, or try an easier pattern, the clothing patterns are easier then the armor patterns, and the smaller ones are easier then the bigger ones.
