[Rossgallan Keep, Kennel]
An assortment of dogs, confined in simple willow pens, bay noisily as the assistant kennel-master moves about tending to their needs. The kennel contains no lady's lap dogs, just working dogs that guard the local sheep or work the boats on the lake, or hunting dogs bred to pursue everything from rabbits to deer. Obvious exits: out.

a sturdy apricot mastiff

Standing about eight hands tall at the shoulders, the mastiff is a solid, muscular dog with short apricot fur over his body, broken by a dark muzzle and mask around his eyes, dark, V-shaped ears and dark feet. He has a broad, somewhat flat skull with marked wrinkles around his brown eyes, a short, square muzzle, and a powerful neck that tapers into the deep chest and wide forequarters. His tail is long, reaching a bit past the hocks, with a slight curve. Sometimes used to hunt bears or feral bulls, the dog gives an impression of danger despite his gentle, dignified nature. He is standing.

a Gwenalion water dog

Bred to work on the fishing boats that trawl Lake Gwenalion, the water dog is a rugged, intelligent working dog with a lush, wavy black coat, a slight top-knot and tufted tail. He has a large head, with a broad skull and muzzle, and short ears that hang close to the head. Standing about five hands tall, the water dog is an excellent swimmer, with flexible webbing between his toes. He is standing.

a shaggy blue-grey staghound

The blue-grey staghound stands about eight hands tall at the shoulders, with a shaggy blue-grey coat of harsh, wiry fur. He has a square muzzle and flat brow with a crown of longer silvery hair atop the skull. His black ears are small and rounded, folded back in repose, and covered in soft, glossy fur. His legs are long and lean, built for running, with a deep chest, arched loin, and drooping tail. He is standing.

a tri-color brachet

The tri-color brachet is a small to medium sized dog with a lean, muscular build. He has a full head with a pronounced brow, low-set ears that lie close to the cheeks, and a long, wide nose with open nostrils. His legs are straight and sturdy, ending in rounded, cat-like feet with well-developed knuckles and strong horn. His short, white coat is wiry, with a black saddle over the shoulders and irregular brown spots here and there. He is standing.

a light brown harrier

The brown harrier is a solidly built hound, about five hands tall, with large bones for his size. Bred to hunt by scent, he has a black nose with wide nostrils and a substantial muzzle. His head is in proportion to his body, with low-set, light brown ears and intelligent hazel eyes. He has a strong neck that sweeps smoothly into the forequarters, a deep chest, and muscular legs. His coat is short and dense with a glossy texture, light brown over the head and hind quarters, with a dark saddle across the back, a white chest, and a small, wiry brush along the curve of the white-tipped tail. He is standing.

a dreadlocked Therengian sheepdog

The Therengian sheepdog is a large dog, about seven or eight hands high at the shoulders, though it's hard to be sure just how large due to the heavy, rope-like white fur that covers his body, hanging almost to the ground if not clipped. Bred to guard sheep against attacks from warcats or peccaries, the sheepdog's dense coat allows him to blend in with the flock and protects him against the elements. He has a large head with a dark muzzle, almond-shaped brown eyes and long, v-shaped ears that hang almost to the shoulder, though the ropey hair makes them appear even longer. He is standing.

a black and tan Rossgallan setter

The Rossgallan setter is a sturdy, medium-sized dog that combines beauty and ability in an elegant package. He has a finely chiseled head, long, rather than broad, with a graceful, curving muzzle and a high forehead. His neck is long and lean, and he has a pronounced forechest. Long black fur falls in gentle waves along his back and legs, with even longer fur falling from his tan belly almost to his hocks in front. He has an intelligent demeanor and noble bearing. He is standing.
