General Information

Historically heavy edged weapons have served as a staple for many military forces, offering substantial weight to an attack while lacking the extreme strength required to wield tremendous bastard swords and greatswords. Within Dragonrealms (also known as HE), heavy edged weapons include the likes of hunting swords, longswords, and broadswords, making them a versatile weapon class that will always remain powerful.

Although two-handed edged weapons are more powerful, heavy edged skill is much more friendly to new players, as a standard Crossing broadsword provides respectable attack power for a very reasonable price. An appealing mix of attack power and ease of use, heavy edged is a popular weapon class, though not quite as popular as two-handed edged. Barbarians should note they can dual-wield heavy edged weapons, making them a very interesting weapon class.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages

  • Great attack power
  • Easy to use
  • Lower roundtimes than 2HE
  • Does slice damage. Powerful slice maneuvers like SLICE and CHOP do not have the defensive penalty associated with piercing maneuvers like LUNGE.

Disadvantages

  • Less attack power than 2HE
  • Roundimes are not much lower than 2HE, which is still more powerful.
  • Harder on new characters than ME and LE.

Guild-Specific Abilities

Recommended Weapons

  • a Crossing-bought broadsword (for new players who cannot afford forged weapons)
  • a forged 21 stone broadsword (L/H/L, R/F)
  • a forged 36 stone bastard sword (in HE mode, L/G/L, F/F)
