Description
She has an elongated face with a viciously spiked crest which follows the shape of her skull with a generous mouth, silver-flecked slitted eyes, one crystal blue and one crystal green and a broad, wedge-like snout, silver scales interrupted by silver-edged reticulation with a pale silver underbelly, a keeled tail overlaid with diamond-shaped markings and an athletic figure.
History
The Birthright & Celestial Strike
Vekshra was hatched deep within the untamed deserts of the ancient mainland under the sign of Ka'len the Sea Drake. While her egg lay nestled in the sands, a freak atmospheric tear erupted above the nesting grounds, sending a pillar of blinding, blue-white aetherial lightning directly into her clutch.
Instead of destroying her, the high-voltage energy reacted with the mineral sands to create a glass-like crucible, fusing pure elemental currents directly into her forming body. The blast bypassed generations of modern evolution, violently unlocking the deepest, hidden atavistic traits of the ancient S'Kra Ur bloodline. She cracked her shell exactly as she stands today—a perfect, pure genetic throwback to the prehistoric dawn of her race.
The Primal Conduit & Style
Because her body was cast from the ancient, draconic mold originally sculpted by the god Ushnish, Vekshra possesses a freakish, natural immunity to the dangerous feedback of unshaped magic. Her manipulation of fire and storm is entirely biological; she does not study the elements, she simply vents them as a physical reflex. The constant, high-frequency voltage humming through her chest makes it impossible to comfortably speak the soft common tongue—any attempt at speech is physically interrupted by internal currents, releasing only a low, dangerous, guttural growl.
In battle, she completely rejects standard bipedal combat. She drops low into a terrifying, quadrupedal stance, utilizing raw Brawling maneuvers to lunge at her targets like an apex predator. When maximum force is required, she rises just enough to wield her ultimate prize: a heavy dragon's tail flail with a firestained head of agonite, caving in armor with bone-shattering impacts and bursts of raw, elemental fire.
The Present Moment
Having traveled far north from the mainland deserts, Vekshra has migrated to the port city of Riverhaven. She can frequently be found stalking the shadows near the legendary Theren Way "Crate." Silent, heavily armored in plate, and crackling with a faint static charge, she watches the bustling adventurers with her mismatched crystal eyes—letting out a warning rumble from her elongated snout to keep strangers at bay while she quietly enjoys an earned thigh bone.
Historical Overviews & Phylogenetic Legacy
The Legend of the Nest
A common point of confusion among northern urban scholars stems from the biological assumption that all serpent-folk are strictly viviparous. However, according to ancient theological orthodoxy preserved in the foundational texts of Elanthia, the primeval ancestors of the race were fundamentally egg-born. Historical scrolls explicitly detail that the goddess Peri'el delivered a physical clutch to the first island progenitor, an event from which the legendary Children of the Nest emerged.[1]
Atavistic Drift & The Mainland Crucible
While modern northern populations underwent morphic shifts that flattened their profiles into the standard S'Kra Mur appearance,[2] the isolated, deep-mainland traditionalist lineages known as the S'Kra Ur (or "True People") stubbornly rejected the change, retaining their predatory, long-snouted phenotypes.[3] Vekshra’s existence is a rare, accidental collision of this active, deep-desert Ur lineage and localized environmental catalysts:
- The Dormant Clutch: Born to a primitive mainland Ur lineage that occasionally manifests ancient ovoviviparous replication cycles, her clutch was left nestled in the mineral-dense sands of the deep mainlands.
- The Accidental Alignment: The aetherial lightning strike did not "create" her traits out of nothing. Instead, the extreme energy acted as a sudden, violent physical kiln—calcifying her primitive silver scales, compressing her stature into a tiny but hyper-dense physical frame, and fracturing her optical nerves into mismatched, elemental conductors.
The Burden of Oblivion & Vocal Stasis
Crucially, Vekshra possesses absolutely no cognitive awareness of her unique phylogenetic position. She does not carry herself as a legendary throwback, an omen of the apocalypse, or an exotic entity. To her own internal perception, she is entirely ordinary—born exactly as she was meant to be.
Her absolute silence is the definitive hallmark of her prehistoric lineage, highlighting a profound anatomical divergence from modern bipedal races:
- The Linguistics Barrier: Her elongated face, heavy wedge-like snout, and jaw structure are purely predatory instruments, structurally built to tear flesh and vent atmospheric currents. Her anatomy physically lacks the vocal cords, flexible lips, and phonetic mechanics required to shape the soft, articulated vowels of the modern Common tongue.
- The Draconic Paradox: In the ancient lore of Elanthia's apex predators, true draconic speech is an immense act of raw, projective magic rather than a vocal exercise. Because Vekshra is entirely unguided, instinctual, and acts completely unaware of her true potential, her thoughts remain entirely locked behind the physical reality of her snout. The constant, high-frequency voltage humming through her chest cavity has no conscious, structured outlet—leaving her internal voice stranded, escaping only as a low, dangerous, guttural growl or an instinctual, sharp reptilian chitter. She simply exists, completely unaware that the silent prison of her throat is the truest proof of her ancient lineage.
