First released in the Wildspire Hollow Cottage with Tuesday Tidings #349.
Whimwood made a rather conspicuous debut when a peculiar pink-barked tree appeared outside Wildspire Hollow. Just days earlier, several Riverhaven locals spotted Ivysol wrestling an enormous cauldron through town in a wheelbarrow while muttering darkly about limestone, powdered rhodonite, and a shady fertilizer merchant. The strange specimen outside her shop bears glossy black leaves and white blossoms washed with a silvery sheen, though Ivysol has predictably declined to explain precisely where it came from. Whether she named it for the whimsical, iridescent, and rosaceous wood, or because she seems to act on every wild whim she ever had, no one knows.
Woodworkers examining later samples found its grain and working properties suspiciously similar to cherrywood, fueling speculation that an unfortunate orchard may have served as the foundation for her experiments. The fresh-cut timber Ivysol readily produces has since revealed another peculiarity: summer harvests yield rich, saturated hues of cerise and magenta, spring and autumn produce softer rosy hues, and winter cuts are remarkably pale. Careful polishing brings out an iridescent sheen across the grain, while less elaborate finishes leave the wood comparatively subdued.
Common Description
Broad, sweeping grain ripples through the finely textured wood in layered shades of pale cerise, the darker striations shifting subtly beneath a glass-smooth polish that brings out a delicate iridescent sheen.
