Game Helpfile

Syntax:
UNLOAD [weapon] Removes ammunition from a ranged weapon.

Notes

  • With one hand free, the ammunition is moved to that hand. This means ammunition from a weapon in the right hand normally goes to the left hand, while ammunition from a weapon in the left hand goes to the right hand.
  • If both hands are occupied, the ammunition falls to the ground.
  • Unloading stops any aim in progress first.
  • Unloading while hidden or invisible involves a stealth contest against observers in the room. Visible observers who notice the action can be identified in the messaging. A creature that notices instead produces <Creature> notices your attempt to unload your <weapon> while remaining hidden!
  • Some ranged weapons use specialized unloading mechanics or messaging. For example, UNLOAD removes only the readied bolt from a repeating crossbow, leaving other bolts in its chamber.

Failure Messages

  • You don't have a ranged weapon to unload. — the bare command found no weapon in your right hand.
  • You must be holding the weapon to do that. — the named weapon is not in either hand.
  • You can't unload such a weapon. — the named held item is not a ranged weapon or cannot use the standard unloading action.
  • But your <weapon> isn't loaded! — the weapon has no readied ammunition.
