Grab
Attempts the grapple brawling maneuver against a target. Scripted items can also define their own response to GRAB.
GRAB <target> — target breaks free

You see: You reach out and grab hold of <target>, but <he/she> breaks away easily.
Target sees: <Name> grabs at you, but you twist free.
Others see: <Name> grabs at <target>, but <he/she> twists free.

GRAB <target> — successful hold
You see: You manage to grab hold of <target>. <Target> grips you back.
Target sees: <Name> manages to grab hold of you. You grip back.
Others see: <Name> grabs hold of <target>.

GRAB <target> — tight grip
You see: You grab hold of <target> in a tight grip. <Target> grips you back.
Target sees: <Name> grabs hold of you in a tight grip. You grip back.
Others see: <Name> grabs hold of <target> in a tight grip.

GRAB <target> — miss
You see: You reach out toward <target> but are unable to make contact.
Target sees: <Name> reaches out toward you, grasping, but can't make contact.
Others see: <Name> grasps out at <target>, but misses.

GRAB <scripted item> — examples
You see: You take control of the room's gavel.
You see: A Trader Guild clerk comes over to you, handing you the gavel.
You see: You thrust your hands into the dark water searching for a pumpkin when you notice a large fish darting towards you. You yank your hand back from the snapping jaws with not a moment to spare. Luckily your hand closes on <item> as you make a hasty retreat!


Syntax

  • GRAB <TARGET>
Attempts to grapple a creature or player. The target must be engaged at melee.
  • GRAB <SCRIPTED ITEM>
Activates an item that specifically supports the command; the item's behavior and requirements vary.

  May also be usable on some items if they are scripted to support it.

Notes

  • Against a creature or player, GRAB uses the grapple maneuver. A successful attempt can establish a grapple, while an unsuccessful attempt still incurs roundtime.
  • The combat form can fail if the target is too large or dead, if either participant is already grappled with someone else, or if the target is not engaged at melee.
  • Scripted-item uses can impose their own requirements, costs, roundtime and failure conditions.
