Introduced in Tuesday Tidings 333.

Appear as a <adjective> snarlvine <fox/vixen>, in several variations.

Confirmed adjectives:

  • dappled
  • fluffy
  • silver-tipped
  • thorn-tailed

Description

Snarlvine foxes possess distinctly vulpine features, but with the size of a large wolf. A dense coat of deep green-black fur covers its lean frame, each hair tipped in silvery white that creates a layered pattern across the body. Bright lilac eyes stand out sharply against the darker coloration, with night-dark markings down its legs and across its muzzle. Delicate vines form a sprawling lattice from nose to tail, winding across the creature's lanky body like ivy climbing a stone wall. Small pastel blossoms emerge at irregular intervals from the living network of green tendrils, while slender creepers thread between the flowers and fur. A long brush-like tail trails behind it, interwoven with thorned growth and flowering tendrils.

Recall

Snarlvine foxes are energetic, inquisitive creatures that are most comfortable in Wildspire Hollow, where their dark coloration and living mantle of vines blend naturally into heavy vegetation. Persistent rumors connect them to the heavily fortified greenhouse behind Wildspire Hollow, a subject which causes the proprietress Ivysol to become noticeably evasive whenever it is raised. While no proof has ever surfaced, the unusual flowering vines woven throughout their bodies bear a striking resemblance to several specimens found within her garden. Visitors to the area often speak of the creature's tendency to appear suddenly, investigate everything, and disappear just as quickly.

They are not known to cast any recognized spells.

They are not known to carry loot in locked boxes.

In Depth

Special Attacks

Can be performed at range.

With a sharp twist, the shadowed emerald-green fox sends a thin vine whipping through the air, its tiny blossoms fluttering as it whistles through the air towards you!
The needlethorn creeper snaps a good (4/23) hit across your head, its barbs scoring a web of shallow punctures before recoiling.

Results in poison when it hits. Also seems to have higher accuracy than their normal attacks.

Can be dodged, blocked, or parried:

  • You manage to evade the lashing tendril, leaving the violent foliage to snap harmlessly past.
  • You manage to block the lashing tendril, the violent foliage slamming into your <shield> with a thunk.
  • You bat the violent foliage aside with a quick motion, sending pastel blossoms spinning through the air.

Messaging

  • Spawn: A thorn-tailed snarlvine vixen darts into the area, pauses just long enough to look around, then immediately begins pacing with restless energy.
  • Spawn: With a playful bark, a silver-tipped snarlvine vixen bursts into view, carrying one of its own flowered creepers in its teeth, only to become distracted and drop it a moment later.
  • Entrance: A fluffy snarlvine vixen trots in from the northwest, its crafty lilac-colored eyes gleaming as she assesses the area.
  • Exit: With its nose to the ground following an intriguing scent, a fluffy snarlvine vixen trots northeast.
  • Death: Pastel flowers drop from the snarlvine vixen as the wandering creepers winding across its body fall still and its eyes fade to a vacant milky white.
  • Decay: An unnerving vulpine scream seems to echo from everywhere as the vixen's body dissolves into a scattering eclipse of lilac moths.
  • Falling: Legs and vines tangle together as a dappled snarlvine vixen tumbles to the ground in an untidy heap.
  • Standing: A dappled snarlvine vixen springs back up in a single fluid motion.
  • Searching: The snarlvine fox searches around for a moment.
  • Webbed: A dappled snarlvine vixen snaps angrily at the webbing restraining it, accomplishing little besides becoming more tangled.
  • Sleeping: A thorn-tailed snarlvine fox's manic energy abruptly leaves it, and its bright eyes dim as they slide shut.
  • Stunned: A thorn-tailed snarlvine fox is suddenly motionless, its lilac-colored eyes staring straight ahead without focus.
  • Random: A silver-tipped snarlvine vixen suddenly springs high into the air before plunging down onto its forepaws with surprising force, scattering petals from the vines clinging to its body.
  • Random: Dropping onto its side without warning, a dappled snarlvine vixen wriggles across the ground for several moments before popping back to its feet.
