Introduced in Fun-Day Fridays 96.

Appear as a <adjective> dryanoxie, in several variations.

Confirmed colors:

  • blossom-tufted
  • briar-crowned
  • clover-capped
  • petal-crested
  • thistle-haired

Description

The dryanoxie has a squat, broad-bodied frame covered in pale green skin mottled in irregular dappled patterns resembling natural camouflage. Reflective coppery eyes sit within a flattened, squashy face beneath a tangled patch of lush grass and a carpet of multihued wildflowers growing directly from its scalp. Layered wooden slats overlap across its body like weathered shingles, forming crude armor that shifts stiffly with movement. Thick pieces of bark are bound beneath its feet with braided grass lashings, creating rough, makeshift footwear.

Recall

Dryanoxies favor dense, heavily forested regions where their mottled coloration and peculiar scalp growth blend naturally into surrounding foliage, though scattered sightings near settlements have become increasingly common. These troublesome creatures are often referred to as "garden goblins" by the explorers due to their habit of pelting passersby with poisonous pods while muttering irritably beneath their breath. Rumors persist that the creatures first emerged from the heavily fortified greenhouse behind Wildspire Hollow, though the proprietress, Ivysol, pointedly refuses to confirm or deny the accusation, becoming noticeably evasive whenever the subject is raised.

They are not known to cast any recognized spells.

They are known to carry loot in locked boxes.

In Depth

Equipment

They wield a gnarled ironwood bough wrapped in briar vines laden with thorns, which decays when attempting to pick it up.

Special Attacks

Can be performed at range.

Coppery eyes gleaming, a thistle-haired dryanoxie squeezes a powdery violet pod until its skin splits, then pelts it at you with an enthusiastic overhand throw. The thistle-haired dryanoxie gives a resounding "BOO!" as the cherry-sized missile sails past you to strike a tree and detonate in a puff of lurid purple pollen.

Results in getting poisoned when hit?
