Introduced in Tuesday Tidings 311.

Description

In a very basic sort of way, the etes drone resembles an ant -- six legs, antennae, three body sections. Its size, however, is closer to a very large raccoon's, and it has additional bodyparts that the common tiny ant lacks. Its proboscis, for example, drips a viscous green fluid that has dyed the surrounding husk a lighter shade of green. The unnatural extension makes the etes drone seem more like a mad mage's experiment, and its undead state is somehow less jarring in that context. Grotesque flaps of withered flesh can sometimes be seen -- no doubt to assist in their hauling duties.

Recall

Formerly only existing within the nightmares of children and those close enough to Ilithi's Vykathi hives, more recent stories from the Forest of Night have brought these monsters from the land of dreams into reality.

Though similar to a common ant, the creature also shows signs of construct-like modifications. However, by all recent accounts from some of the most highly respected Empaths, the creatures lack the animating magical effects afflicting other constructs while absolutely possessing the twisted, angry spark of unlife.

Some accounts exist of the creatures having an affinity for acid. Various forms have been reported that further reinforce the parallels with ant colonies -- drones, workers, soldiers and perhaps even queens. Thus far, there is not consensus about the acid's strength correlating to a particular class.

Though silly, the same self-proclaimed Gnomish Bugologist who made waves in recent years with the discovery of new species of moths was the first to claim contact with these creatures. Through an aggressive campaign, the etes name stuck. It has no verified ties to any currently known languages, and simply 'came to her in a dream'.

While their source is shrouded in mysteries and rumors, only the foolish would rule out Sithsia herself having a hand in the matter in some way or another.

They are not known to cast any recognized spells.

They are known to carry loot in locked boxes.

In Depth

Special Attacks

Acid spitting attack that can be dodged or blocked, but causes damage over time to shields and armor.

Without warning, a gurgling eruption of viscous emerald fluid begins spraying wildly from the proboscis that extends from an etes drone's head. The spray arcs towards you!
You fling up your diamondwood shield and manage to deflect the green spray from yourself, but the shield isn't spared.
