Krakenite forms in deep ocean trenches, where crushing pressure and mineral-rich waters compress iron into dense ore. The Merelew harvest it with care, diving into near-lightless depths to extract it piece by piece before smelting it into ingots for use in armor, weaponry, and tools. It is dark metal that can be used in decorative pieces or jewelry, though its only remarkable visible feature is that it will not retain a shine of any kind.
