F2P can't find rare minerals?

Waves of debris spill forth as you repeatedly strike the earth with your curved shovel. When the dust clears, both a limestone pebble and a huge platinum nugget are visible on the ground. Roundtime: 21 sec.

This is the second platinum vein that I've struck, now. I also hit a niniam vein last week. F2P absolutely can find rare minerals. Kashna 10:10, May 20, 2016.
