It literally takes the student's total xp bits, adds a few more, and wallah! What is most likely happening is that because she is teaching a skill she knows so much less in than you do, neither of you is actually getting a lot of bits. It may appear that the student is learning more, but I would wager this is because they have a smaller pool and/or slower drain. I'll double check teaching experience when I get a chance, but in a case where someone is trying to teach something the student knows better, I suspect things are working as intended and won't change a lot. - GM Dartenian
