Howdy folks. Just wanted to give you a quick update on how things are going with Tailoring. The system was released on Plat preview last week, and since then I have been tweaking and releasing new bits and pieces of it. Along the way some discussion developed, and I decided to make some adjustments to how dyeing of fabrics will work. Unfortunately this was complicated by the Holidays, and my not wanting to get too many of the "old" materials into the system before we could change things.

So, we are looking at an release early in January for Prime. The good news is that the entire thread spinning system will be live (distaffs and spinning wheels), as will support for dyeing threads and cloths. It will work something like this...


some cotton fibers -> spinning -> some (thickness) cotton thread -> (weaving) -> some cotton cloth

Thickness will adjust the fabric density which modifies things like weight and carrying capacity, protection for armor, and value. Weaving right now will be basic weaves only (linen, cotton, burlap, wool, silk) with more complex weaves coming in the first update to support "named" fabric creation (broadcloth, chainsil, damask, muslin, etc).

This system will also support dyeing at the thread, cloth and finished item level - though aside from dyes potentially sold at festivals / auction and via loot drops, player-made dyes won't come until Artistry/Alchemy are further along.

The dyeing system will let you dye thread, and then weave colored cloth out of it. Or you can dye the cloth itself. Or, you can just dye the finished item. The dyeing process becomes harder the later in the process you go, though bleaching agents will let you start over should you need to.

Cloth containers will tend to be larger in size, but hold less weight when compared to leather. Thinner fabrics will also hold a large volume, but a reduced weight. So, that should give people some flexibility and give both cloth and leather their own niche.

Anyhow, just wanted to give you an update. My goal was a release on Christmas, but delaying a few weeks will benefit everyone (especially those of us having to maintain the system...) in the long run. More to come soon!
