The Carving discipline involves the shaping of non-metal objects into utility forms.

The only available place to practice carving currently is the Crossing Engineering Society.

Basics

The ANALYZE command generally can be used to determine the qualities of items, as well as the next step they require. For more specific information, APPRAISEing the item CAREFULLY will tell you how it's inherent properties compare on the Trader Scale.

Techniques

See Stonecarving Techniques.

Tools

See Crafting Tools for an in depth discussion of them.

  • jar of stone polish
  • fine sandpaper
  • iron rasp
  • stone-carving chisel set
  • riffler set
  • cleaning cloth

Shaping

The first step is to turn your carving book to the desired chapter and page, then STUDY it. After that, CARVE <rock/item> WITH CHISEL, until the item is complete or a problem is reached.

  • If item develops an uneven texture or becomes no longer level, hold a rasp and SCRAPE <object> WITH RASP.
  • If discolored areas are discovered then APPLY POLISH TO <item>.
  • If the carving results in jagged edges, RUB <item> WITH RIFFLERS.

For some items, a handle such as the long or short poles must be added using ASSEMBLE <item> WITH POLE.

Item List

See Carving Products.

  • Granite is currently the best material.
  • "The hardness of the stone affects how good of a weapon it makes. The durability will affect how well it holds up to wear. Each stone has a density that affects how much items crafted from it weigh, and a value modifier that determines how much things created from it cost. A stone's workability affects how much additional skill is necessary to craft items from it. I think that is all of them." -Kodius
