This item explains the plot to Morum Melgorehn. It will decay once the quest is completed.
First Page
The first page is only the first page remaining in the journal -- many earlier pages appear to be missing. The bottom half of this page is torn off, but at the top you can see written in a spidery hand the following words:
Pharidio 11, 250 YC
I returned today to Gnoristranix after two weeks consulting with the Seer, and giving him my report. Master Tribin tells me the excavation is proceeding marvelously. Our claw machines have successfully created their sturdy tunnels underneath the site, and all the lifters are in place in a few days, we should have the machine completely excavated. It's so thrilling, I can't even think about it without leaping up and down with anticipation. No one quite knows what it is we've found here not Master Tribin, not the diggers, not the Seer. Even all the engineers that have come to inspect the machine aren't sure what it is neither am I. All I know is that this is something more advanced than anything we've made so far. We'll have to keep this secret small chance of that now. But still, whatever this is, I don't want it being used as a weapon. This is a priceless artifact... we need to study it. Our people can learn much from it. Master Tribin is here. He seems excited. I'd best go. Will be busy in the coming weeks. No time for writing! My findings can be recorded later.
Second Page
On the second of the remaining pages are the words:
Pharidio 24, 250 YC
Unbelievable! The machine appears to be some sort of dragon. A mechanical one. This machinery is complex. Very advanced. We don't know what it does yet, and we'll have to study it for a while. But it's advanced. That's about all we know at this point. I can barely contain myself. This truly is my greatest find. Now that the machine has been excavated, we'll begin our complete analysis at once.
Third Page
On the third of the remaining pages are the words:
Giralio 9, 250 YC
It flies! The machine flies. Imagine our surprise upon discovering this. We were just fiddling around in a room when suddenly the thing took off into the sky. Never before have I dreamed such a thing possible. Who created this? Where did it come from? A few Gnomes died when the machine flew so suddenly. They were on the outside and unfortunately plummeted to the ground. Note: must compensate the families. Do not forget.
Fourth Page
The fourth of the remaining pages is just a big smear. You can't make out a single word.
Fifth Page
On the fifth of the remaining pages are the words:
Bimelio 45, 253 YC
It's time to go adventuring and exploring. With my wonderful dragon, I'll be able to find even more ruins. Explore strange places, meet new beings, dangerous creatures! There'll be adventure everywhere. I've finished construction of Nougat based on the technology I studied in the dragon. Nougat will help me pilot the machine. I've loaded all my treasures and artifacts onboard, and left my squabbling family behind. And plenty of paper. With all the amazing things I'm sure to see, we'll need plenty of paper.
Sixth Page
A great chunk of pages are missing after the fifth page, but the sixth of the remaining pages reads:
Phrestio 19, 254 YC
Disaster has struck. We landed the dragon to conduct some repairs, and unloaded all our cargo. I went back in to begin the maintenance, when I heard some odd chanting about "Gifts from the Dragon!" I need to go find out what's happened. I'm leaving Nougat and my dragon for now.
Seventh Page
On the seventh of the remaining pages are the words:
Phrestio 30, 254 YC
What an interesting experience I've had. Deep underground, I encountered strange people. Tall, like the Gorbesh, but not quite so tall. More like the odd Humans I met last year. Long-limbed and bony, with short ears and noses and bulging eyes. I met another man an outcast who lived alone. He told me about them. The Kather are divided into four groups the Shamans, the Watchers, the Warriors, and the Workers. They're very religious, and worship dragons, it seems. All Kather are born into one of the four groups they live with other people in their groups, eat with other people in their groups, and marry other people in their groups. Except for the Shamans, I don't think any of them interact at all outside of their group. It's the Shamans who maintain their traditions and tell the will of the gods... the dragons. They're very respected. I'm certain these Shamans will be reasonable people.
Eighth Page
The eighth and last existing page reads:
Panopsio 3, 255 YC
I turn 70 today. By Gnome standards, I'm ancient. And feeling the effects. Probably die soon, no matter. I had a good life! Time to write my will: I leave everything I own to Fred and Twixxpindleepoo. That was easy. I'm sure they'll take good care of everything.
