It is not. The exp gain for the student is based on (a) the teacher's skill in teaching modified by stats, (b) the student's scholarship modified by stats, and (c) whether the teacher knows more or less than the student.

It's as simple as that, really.

There is a cap, but it is a simple constant based on X bits per Y seconds, something we typically do with all experience game that doesn't involve roundtimes.
