Drop command

Drop
Releases an item held in either hand and places it on the ground. Some items have special drop behavior and may be damaged or destroyed.
DROP <item> You see: You drop <item>. DROP <instrument> (first attempt on solid ground) You see: Whoah! Dropping <instrument> would damage it! If you wish to set the <instrument> down, LOWER it. [If you still wish to drop it, EMPTY <hand> or DROP it again.] DROP <favor orb> (shattering result) You see: You drop your <favor orb> and it shatters on the ground. Others see: <Name> drops <his/her> <favor orb>, which shatters on the ground. Failures You see: But you aren't holding that. You see: What were you referring to?

Syntax

Drops the indicated item from your hand onto the ground.

Some objects override the ordinary result of DROP. Fragile objects, including musical instruments and some glass items, may be damaged or destroyed rather than simply placed on the ground.
Dropping an instrument onto solid ground for the first time gives a warning and does not release it. Repeating DROP within two minutes, or using EMPTY on that hand, confirms the damaging action. Continued deliberate damage can destroy the instrument.
A favor orb can shatter when dropped, depending on its state. In a favor puzzle area, DROP MY ORB destroys the orb and returns you to the entrance, failing the puzzle.
To set down an item safely, use LOWER where the item supports it. LOWER <ITEM> TO GROUND places the item in your at-feet inventory slot. For other fragile items, PUT <ITEM> ON GROUND may be the supported alternative.
