Verb information for verb "light":
Syntax: LIGHT <object> WITH <flint, or similar>
You try to light <object> on fire. Used with pipes, charcoal, torches, etc.
Usually requires flint in one hand and a tinderbox or steel weapon in the other.

Notes

  • When using flint, hold the flint in one hand and a metal object in the other. The flammable object may be on the ground or at your feet. Some objects can be lit inside an open container, but others refuse to light inside a container because it might catch fire.
  • Some attempts to produce sparks may fail without lighting the object. Trying again can succeed.
  • An object cannot normally be lit while it is worn or inside a closed container.
  • Oil lamps and lanterns are lit by targeting their oil, such as LIGHT OIL IN LANTERN WITH FLINT.
  • A lighter uses POINT rather than LIGHT: POINT LIGHTER AT <OBJECT>.
