Tips to make life easier for people without MARK:

1) Always check to make sure what you type gets you what you want. Don't STEAL unless you've tried GET or BUY first to confirm the syntax.
1b) In fact, you should generally be doing that anyway so that you can get a feel for the object's weight and value, which determine how hard it's going to be to grab.

2) If you pick up a warrant: stop, turn yourself in, and then do something else for the rest of the day. It becomes harder and harder to plead and the fines steadily grow as you build a reputation as a criminal. The judge is stupid but not that stupid: most complaints of pleading innocent's ineffectiveness comes from people who are blithely getting warrants every day.
2b) This is especially important for Necromancers who want to practice stealing.

3) If your Hiding is above your Stealing (and it probably is), hide first.
3b) Shadows and related spells are your friends.
