Heraldry is the art of creating and describing coats of arms and other heraldic emblems. The customs and rules of heraldry presumably apply in Elanthia. (Traditionally, women did not go to war, so they did not display their arms on shields, but in Elanthia there are many female warriors.)

Elanthia does not have any official heraldic authorities, societies, or registers of arms, but that hasn't stopped people from adopting their own coats of arms.

In-game Resources
There are two shops that will create shields, tabards, and banners with customized designs: The Heraldry Shop in Shard and Hvairn's Showldh Stal in Hibarnhvidar.

Designs are limited. You can only have one type of charge, although you can have up to nine. (For example, you could have a shield with 2 gryphons, but not a gryphon and a dragon.) The shops do not support field divisions, so the field or background must be of one solid color.

Unfortunately, these shops will only paint plain-looking shields that do not have a detailed look. (Unlike dye shops, which do not work on modern player-made items, these shops may work on player-made shields.) In order to have a tabard or banner made, you must provide a shield that was painted by a herald.

For a list of heraldic designs on Elanthipedia, see :Category:Heraldry. This primarily includes official guild crests and player-made coats of arms for organizations and individuals.
