Remember, once the kit is weened, the mother has passed the kit off to the tender mercies of the Claw of Eu and Claw of Demrris. From that time, their education into the way of the Prydaen begins. They are not codgered when young, in some instances, outsiders may say it is barbaric on how they are treated when young. But the Prydaen dont care what outsiders say, a Prydaen is taught to survive. And to survive is not always nice :-)

They are taught from early age the basics of the hunt in the games they play. A version of tag, where one kit may be the prey, and the other kits the hunters. A version of hide and seek, teaching how to be stealthy. Lots of rough housing to toughen each up. These are only a few things done at a very early age as they develope. And all the while, being taught the history of the Prydaen and the spirituality of the people. A Prydaen kit who does not adapt to the early training may not survive. Again, no coddling the kits, even at this early stage of their life, as coddling breeds weakness in survival instincts that they need to survive on their own.

As they gain in cooridation, the games are no longer just games. They start to set up how a kit stands over the other kits, a pecking order so to speak. Games become rougher, more of an edge as each kit hones their ability. No longer frog chasers, pigglet chasers. They are taken out on short hunts for small game, tusked hogs, rabbits. There they learn that some game can hurt them, which does happen even under the supervision of a mentor. They learn of how the prey is used down to the bones, no waste.

As they get older, the hunts range further out and last last days at times. During these times, their mentors may abandon the kits to survive as they may, while they watch silently from trees or other locations. Again, they are teaching a Prydaen to be self sufficient.

The last few years of developement, a kit will be taken in by two mentors. One to teach honed physical abilities, and another for his spiritual training. IN these times, it is a match on how the kit developes during his previous years, and the direction of his abilites, so the Mentor picks one whom follows near the path that he/she follows. At these times, it is a 1 on 1 training, more attention be it good or bad. At the end of these trainings, will a kit be presented to become a true Prydaen.
