The servant will digest some items rather than store them, such as single pelts, foragables, or other junk items. It belches when it does this. The more weight the servant is carrying, the slower it moves. If you release servant, it will sometimes drop everything it is carrying (so never do that). Instead, log out and back in again. This is also a good trick if the servant gets stuck somewhere or is taking too long to follow you.
