Unlike red and blue gold which are still gold with a colored hue - black gold has a dark black surface color with a metallic luster. This look is achieved traditionally by electroplating the surface of the metal to achieve the glossy black look.
This material is rare and must be provided for alterations. Generally it must retain the original shape in an alteration cannot be melted down or re-worked without losing its color. i.e.: a black gold ring must stay a ring.
