The colorless versions of these topazes rain down from the sky when the moon Xibar moves especially close to Elanthia, which only happens once every few decades.
Special devices called gweriala can be used to send the colored versions topazes that represent different emotions. The colored ones vanish when Xibar moves away, though the clear Xibar topazes remain and are considered extremely rare.
