You tap the mechanical sparrow a few times on the back of its head, making it emit a soft whirring sound as it slowly begins pecking forward on your hand. As the sparrow gradually speeds up, the sound grows in a crescendo, until it reaches its top speed then starts slowing, eventually coming to a stop. Though the mechanical sparrow is still, a soft mechanical spinning sound can still be heard coming from within the metal body.
