Back when I played in 2002 you could pay a Moon Mage to retune Gaethzen & Cambrinth when it was empty, back to neutral. So if you purchased a Holy one from a Cleric you could get it retuned by a Moon Mage (I remember this costing me 2 plat) and then you could focus it yourself to set it to your magical mana source. I owned 8 gaethzen roses, and several gaethzen phoenix orbs which I used to train MD and Harnessing on as a Bard. (couldn't cast spells, and at that time enchantes didn't draw mana from cambrinth so activating the light source to get them to empty was the next best thing.) |

Gaethzen are magical light sources powered by mana. You use them almost exactly as you use Cambrinth items, however instead of getting your mana back, you get light instead! A light source becomes very handy if you're going into a dark area and need to be able to see your way around.
Gaethzen items are extremely fragile. If you DROP them, they will shatter. They are also like Cambrinth in that they become attuned to whatever magic they were first charged with. So if you as an Empath charge it with Life Magic, then give it to a Cleric, who tries to charge it with Holy Magic, you can kiss the gaethzen goodbye! Gaethzen can be retuned however by a Moon Mage, just like Cambrinth.
Also, if you have already activated the Gaethzen and it is glowing, don't try to charge it until it has run out of mana or it WILL shatter!
Using Gaethzen
- CHARGE your gaethzen item with mana. i.e. CHARGE <item> 20
- The more you charge your gaethzen, the longer the light will last. You can charge it as many times as you need until it's full.
- FOCUS your item to forge a magical link to it.
- RUB your item to turn it on.
When the power runs out, your gaethzen item will simply extinguish itself.
