More information about the House history and structure can be found on the House of the Gilded Longleaf (group) page.
The House grounds and buildings that are made available to the public and to House members-only can be found outside the Shard east gate along the Ring Road. Within the grounds are a number of refreshments and Picked Flora.
House Grounds Open to the Public
[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Trail]
The trail meanders around a fallen tree and several large boulders. Wildflowers grow in sparse clumps hosting the occasional butterfly as they flit from one batch to the next. Waving in the breeze, ribbons clearly mark the route. You also see a dark hole nestled between two boulders and a winding trail leading towards the eastern shore.
Obvious paths: west, northwest.

Snapdragons and verbena grow in a profusion of color here, covering every inch of the ground. Lush spicebushes nestle against the thicket which looms nearby, its brilliant orange flowers sending a siren call to the butterflies which flock to the area for miles around. A game trail leads to the southeast and a wooded path heads north, following the thicket. You also see a path.
Obvious paths: southeast.

[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Wooded Path]
The maintained path follows the thicket through woods populated with pine, cedar and oak trees. Wildflowers dominate the ground cover surrounding sweet-smelling lilac bushes. The butterflies fly more thickly here, and the air is full of their fluttering wings. Discreet ribbons are tied to the bushes and thicket in regular intervals to mark the way through the undergrowth. You also see a path.
Obvious paths: northwest.

[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Meadow]
Following the thicket, the path travels through a small, overgrown meadow. Lilac bushes fill the open area giving off their sweet, heady fragrance. The ever-present butterflies have given way to honey bees from a nearby hive who are working tirelessly at collecting pollen. Ribbons have been regularly placed on the bushes and thicket to mark the path.
Obvious paths: north, southeast.

Amid a riot of daisies and buttercups sits a red-lacquered wooden bench. Swarms of colorful butterflies fly over the flowers in ever-changing clouds. An arbor, laced with blue and white flowers, interrupts the otherwise impenetrable wall of the nearby thicket.
Obvious paths: northeast, south.

The garden's formal layout contrasts with, yet also compliments, the natural growth of the surrounding forest. Raised beds of varying heights are filled with goldenrod and marigolds. A weathered bench sits under the fragrant branches of a stately weeping willow tree. Leading the way through the nearby thicket is an arbor, and the path continues around the willow in either direction.
Obvious paths: southeast, south.

Wild roses grow with cultivated blossoms in a glorious array of colors that radiates out from the path in rounded arcs. A life-sized marble statue of a stately Elothean woman stands amid the bushes which grow nearly to her waist. A black deobar bench rests under the draping branches of a massive willow tree.
Obvious paths: north, northeast.
Pickable:
- black rose
- Hodierna's blush rose
- fragrant yellow rose
- pale violet rose
- large red rose
- pink-tipped silver rose

Swaying willow boughs shade the path in this portion of the garden where the tree leans slightly. Ferns interspersed with stargazer lilies grow thick in the damp soil. A cedar bench, varnished to bring out the natural wood grain, sits to one side of a boardwalk. The smells of a nearby marshy bog are evident on the breeze.
Obvious paths: southwest, northwest.

Honeysuckle and jasmine have twined up the graceful columns that support the shallow, convex roof enclosing this welcoming portico. Mimicking the colors of the flowering vines, a vermilion and cream floor runner stretches across the timber platform from the edge of a teak ramp to the cheerful double doors leading into the building. Beside the doors stands a weathered statue of an Elothean woman gesturing at a bronze gong. You also see a wide archway and an aged wooden swing.

[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Encampment]
Wagons of various sizes and shapes are spread throughout the area, with some connected by covered walkways for larger families. Bright pink bee balm flowers grow with abundance here, attracting hummingbirds -- a favorite bird of the elders who come to watch them during the day. Steps lead towards the main building. You also see a white bench facing the flora and a path.
Obvious paths: north.

[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Wooded Trail]
Growing more abundantly as the trail heads northward, the trees are thick on the ground. Very few wagons are found here, giving a sense of solitude to the area. Several pots of bright red geraniums are placed side by side with herbs, adding both beauty and function to the portable landscaping. The path continues toward the sound of water while a ramp heads to a forest bower.
Obvious paths: northeast, southeast.

[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Forest Bower]
Encircling giant ferns offer privacy to this peaceful glade while the boughs of towering trees and a simple awning offer shelter from the elements. The gentle murmur of a nearby stream promises a restful slumber in the open air. For that purpose, a collection of hammocks clusters around a stone firepit. Some thoughtful soul has left jugs of spring water and a basket of freshly-baked bread near the forest-green door leading into the building. You also see a weathered ramp.
Obvious exits: none.

[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Flower Field]
Quiet encompasses the field, and the only sound is the babble of the nearby brook. Every imaginable type of native flower blankets the ground, filling the air with an almost tangible scent. Multitudes of butterflies are found here, flying or resting on nearby blossoms. A massive oak tree, twisted with age, rises up in the center of the clearing, providing ample shade on sunny days. A winding trail crosses the brook then leads to an encampment.

[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Back Porch]
Open on three sides, this simple, covered porch offers both a back entrance to the kitchen and a welcomed respite from the heat of the stove. The boughs of wild cherry and plum trees cascade over the slatted handrails beside which two rustic benches rest. A rough-hewn walkway leads past the meeting forum to another building in the distance while a meandering woodland path offers access to the vegetable and herb gardens. You also see a simple curtain.

Cooks work busily at the three tables standing in the center of the room. With its simmering pots and whistling kettles, a round stove nestles in the corner opposite a massive whitewashed pantry. Along the far wall, a large window and the brass lanterns flanking it offer ample light for cooking and cleaning alike. In an attempt to vent the heat of the room, a simple curtain is pulled aside to reveal the back porch. You also see an ivy-twined doorway.

[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Dining Hall]
Saffron-yellow tablecloths, cerulean cushions and delicate floral arrangements disguise the simple, low tables and benches at which meals are served in this busy common room. Braziers have been placed along the rear wall to offer diners light and warmth as they enjoy the gentle, woodland breezes that waft in through an oversized window. An aggressive wisteria vine winds its way through the silk-draped lattice walls, scenting the area with its heady aroma. You also see an ivy-twined doorway and a wide louvered window.
Obvious exits: west.
[House of the Gilded Longleaf, Remembrance Hall]
To either side of a teak walkway, elaborate trelliswork rises from the woodland floor, creating a vast pergola under the tree canopy. Small shrines are sheltered among the hostas, painted ferns, and bluebells that quilt the ground while a profusion of vines reaches upward along the carved beams of the enclosure. The sound of birdcalls and the steady rhythm of a water clock are all that mar the reverent silence of the hall. Gaps in the pergola reveal an arbored footpath. You also see a carved archway and the foyer.
