The MEASURE command is used to measure the dimensions of an object you are holding. Attempting to estimate the dimensions without a tool requires and teaches Appraisal skill. Measuring with a yardstick is always accurate.

Measuring an open container will measure its internal dimensions and carrying capacity, while measuring a closed container will give you the outside dimensions. Note that a container's exterior dimensions change as it is filled up, based on the elasticity of the material.

The MEASURE command is also used in the Tailoring discipline.

Unit of Measurement

Elanthia uses a unit of measurement called the span (think "handspan").

Spans Equivalent
9 spans 1 yard
3 spans 1 foot
1 span 4 inches

Note that the game does track measurements in units smaller than spans, but display rounds to span.

Syntax

  • MEASURE <item>
  • MEASURE <item> WITH <measuring tool> (yardstick)
