A soft light blossoms in the very center of the crystal, and begins to fill your mind with the knowledge of The Immortal Ten.

You recall a story you heard, repeated to you by Sheearyn. Your crystal aids in a perfect retelling.

The ten months of the Elanthian calendar each bear the name of one of the Immortal Ten - each an influential figure in Lanival the Redeemer's eventual defeat of Lord Teiro's armies and subsequent establishment of the five provinces. These Immortal Ten are Akroeg the Ram, Ka'len the Sea Drake, Lirisa the Archer, Shorka the Cobra, Uthmor the Giant, Arhat the Fire Lion, Moliko the Balance, Skullcleaver the Dwarven Axe, Dolefaren the Brigantine, and Nissa the Maiden.

Akroeg the Ram was the first Human to try to unite the clans. His rule was marked by a fairness and dependence on counselors that was previously unheard of in a world of benevolent despots. Each time another clan voluntarily joined his clan, its past leader was added as a counselor to the clan. This unification served as inspiration in Lanival's mission for reunification.

Ka'len the Sea Drake was a friend to Lanival and his right-hand maritime warlord in support of efforts to split the Empire into the five Realms. He was the master of the Dolefaren, a great ship of war. The Dolefaren was influential enough to earn a spot of its own among the Immortal Ten as Dolefaren the Brigantine. Five enemy Elven warcraft eventually sank the Dolefaren and killed Ka'len in the Segoltha Sea, to Lanival's sorrow.

Lirisa the Archer used her silvered bow to bring justice to traitors of the Empire, appearing and disappearing with little mark other than the whistle of an arrow and the appearance of an arrow shaft in her target. She was a friend to Lanival and a possible lover to Arhat - a rumor that she neither confirmed nor denied. Lirisa never returned from her last hunt, though the Elven warlord she had hunted was successfully killed.

Shorka the Cobra was a S'kra Mur who was the first to join with Lanival to create the five realms that exist today. She had an astonishing ability to convince the S'kra Mur that Lanival's vision was for the best - a tall order, since Lanival was at least partly Human. Unlike Lirisa and Ka'len's deaths in battle, Shorka survived to lead the S'kra to the desert after the war. She helped to found Muspar'i in 225 BL and reigned as Queen of Velaka.

Uthmor the Giant was a tactical genius who became Lanival's honorary General. He transformed Lanival's troops into a corps of trained warriors, helping to end the Resistance Wars. In the Battle of Segoltha River, he cornered and destroyed a S'kra war party, which went on to be considered the greatest victory of his career. Uthmor was a good friend of Arhat and coordinated closely with him in his military victories. Dwarven King Hexoch gifted Uthmor a massive axe, which became known as Skullcleaver the Dwarven Axe - one of the Immortal Ten in its own right. Lanival borrowed Skullcleaver from Uthmor to kill the Elven Lord Teiro in 231 BL. Skullcleaver was lost following Uthmor's death in 204 BV.

Arhat the Fire Lion was a close friend of Uthmor the Giant and had unrivaled mastery of elemental, particularly fire, magic. He also trained the other mages serving in Lanival's army. Arhat established the Warrior Mage guild - the first of the guilds to be established after the collapse of the Empire. Arhat died of old age a week after Uthmor's death in 204 BV.

Moliko the Balance wrote many of the laws of the Empire, well before Lanival's time. Lanival drew inspiration from Moliko, frequently quoting her and closely following her ideals. Her motto was 'Justice for all.' It was her idea to employ a single guard for the entire Empire rather than allowing merchants to hire their own. She was firm in her convictions, and her decrees still influence many lawmakers today.

Nissa the Maiden was a member of the Empire's Elven Council and the daughter of Teiro, Elven Lord of the Seven Star Empire, whom Lanival borrowed Skullcleaver to defeat in the Resistance Wars. Upon discovering her father and some of his captains testing a whip on the back of a Human child, she became outraged. She cast a sleep spell upon the Elven lords, rescued the child, and betrayed her father and the Empire to join Lanival. She offered her healing powers and her wisdom to aid Lanival, becoming his closest and dearest advisor. When Lanival was captured by Teiro, she offered herself in exchange. This granted Lanival his freedom, at the cost of watching Nissa be slain before his eyes.

Though not himself one of the Immortal Ten, Lanival the Redeemer is the central thread binding them together. Lanival was the son of an Elven mother and a Human father, who is credited with creating the modern five provinces. He united clans, gathering allies to eventually lead to victory over Teiro, the Elven Lord in the Resistance Wars. Two of the Immortal Ten - Akroeg and Moliko - lived well before Lanival's time, serving as inspiration for his mission. Six - Ka'len, Lirisa, Shorka, Uthmor, Arhat, and Nissa - were his friends, allies, and advisors through the Resistance Wars and the creation of the provinces. The final two - Skullcleaver and Dolefaren - were particularly pivotal tools (an axe and a warship) in his victory.
