{{incomplete|Needs information on necromantic backlash}} |
{{RTOC}} |
A significantly worse outcome than a [[backfire]], a sorcerous backlash is a spell failure that results from infusing a spell pattern with a type of mana other than the one for which it was designed. Some combinations of mana are more dangerous than others because of differences in the way that those types of mana behave. [[Necromancer]]s have a reduced risk of backlash because of their guild's focus on the arcane. |
*Most dangerous combination: Life with Holy or Elemental with Lunar<br/> |
*Least dangerous combination: Elemental and Life or Lunar and Holy<br/> |

==Effects== |
Effects are very severe, ranging from bodily dismemberment to complete disintegration. |
==Example== |
<blockquote> |
You wave your ilmenite-tipped wand at a golden jackal.<BR> |
The mana you were holding contributes to the spell.<BR> |
The spell pattern resists the influx of Holy mana, and a strange burning sensation backwashes from the spell pattern into your body.<BR> |
An instant rush of black and blue fire explodes into being, consuming your outstretched limbs and turning them into ash!<BR> |
</blockquote> |
==Necromantic Backlash== |
A related, but separate phenomina, Necromantic basklash is a type of Sorcerous backlash that occurs with Life mana. |
This results in minor bleeders and a necromantic rash. |
