No.

The bell-curve on learning is absurd, and weighted extremely much in-favor of the crafter. The bell-curve on material difficulty is likewise very, very forgiving. Even using lead you should have learned something, but I wasn't there to watch you and see what you were doing.

Again, as I keep saying to folks having problems... please catch me so I can watch you crafting. 10 seconds and I'll know what 30 minutes of chatting on the forums cannot reveal :P

Studying the book assumes a workability of 50, and tool/ingredient quality of 70. Essentially it checks skill, assuming all else is a non-factor.

If you give yourself a 30% bonus using an easy material (effectively pushing the 'hard' item down to below 'easy', I don't see any reason why it should train as a 'hard' item.
