|p=GARBAGE23OMF's post is spot on. I'll toss a bit more into the mix, since it can be difficult to identify <nowiki>[</nowiki>{{PRel|Trader Jewelry}}] in shops.

Firstly, you need a base amount of appraisal to trigger it. There's also a random factor added in, so you may need multiple appraises if you're in the wobbly zone. Assuming you have the skill, and you're a trader, then you'll always see the "The {item} is obviously a specially made item." line when it's NOT in your hands.

When I get a chance, I'll take a look at the trader shops to see if they do something to block appraisals that would stop the above from happening.
